Swedish municipality of Karlstad chooses energy efficient drying cabinets from NIMO

Anyone who has visited a preschool or primary school has likely noticed that drying cabinets filled with wet clothes are running almost constantly. The reason, of course, is the need to dry children's wet clothes after joyful and active play outdoors in rainy and rough weather—but it’s also because traditional drying cabinets are equipped with timers, which means they continue running even after the clothes are already dry.

– There’s no denying that timer-based drying cabinets can be energy thieves if not used properly. For a more sustainable society, we all need to do our part to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. The drying function for children's clothing is essential, but there are smarter cabinets with built-in sensors that detect when the clothes are dry and automatically shut off—like the NIMO Sensor Dryer 1900, says a representative from NIMO.

With the NIMO Sensor Dryer 1900 exhaust air cabinet, it takes an average of 30 minutes to dry children’s clothes. A sensor detects when the garments are dry and then turns off the cabinet automatically, saving energy.

– To dry clothes, the NIMO Sensor Dryer 1900 uses about half as much energy compared to a traditional timer-based drying cabinet—making it a climate-smart solution.

The municipality of Karlstad currently has around 250 drying cabinets in its preschools and primary schools. About one-third of those have already been replaced. The current agreement with Karlstad Municipality covers the remaining two-thirds—more than 160 cabinets in total. NIMO’s reseller, Elon Richardsson’s in Karlstad, is responsible for delivery and installation, with all new drying cabinets scheduled to be installed before the end of the year. NIMO sees this deal as strategically important within the public sector.
